the chocfrappe family unites |
A very special and critical milestone took place last July 16, when our parents finally met in what we Filipinos and starry-eyed lovers around the world know as the Pamamanhikan. While Gab and I have embraced old-country/cafĂ©/vintage tones throughout our planning process, our version of the Pamamanhikan was largely modern. No rigid formalities, only good food and good conversation courtesy of Ninyos Fusion Cuisine, a popular spot among foodies, bloggers, lovebirds, and very discriminate diners. Chef Nino Laus, who happens to be Gab’s cousin and our secondary sponsor, and his Mom made sure that the night would be a most delightful and satisfying experience, and nothing less than that!
It may seem for others that our joint dinner might have come a tad too late as so much progress has already took place the past 12 months!! But first and foremost we didn’t want any parent to miss this particular tradition, for whatever reason. Alas, it was only July 2011 in which the stars and schedules aligned for a perfect, joyous, laughter-filled evening. (we did miss Gab's kuya Paul who's overseas) And anyway, this dinner was not set up for Gab to bare his intentions of marrying me before my family -- because he had done already won them over a year ago, all on his own. :)

Overall, the event was fabulous and marvelous. The 5-course dinner and romantic, resplendent ambience of Ninyo’s only enhanced the night’s pleasantries, which had spread until nearly midnight. As night descended, the unmistakable bellow of tuko/geckos faded unto the streetlights of Abada outside. And we - the Obminas and De Veras - were all smiles and several anecdotes happier, later.
We should again extend our graciousness to our lovely Titas and Mama (Gab’s charming lola) who were doting witnesses, to Chef Nino and Tita Edna for another degustation masterpiece and the different, calorie-filled compliments! :) To our siblings who warmed us with cheers and company – and our parents for their blessings here, now, and in the life Gab and I am about to embark in.
